Our central nervous system is located in the spine. A Pilates workout generates new neurons, which is the foundation of the nervous system. It increases neurotransmitters aiding in the better survival of the neurons responsible for learning, memory and higher thinking. If you would like to increase your cognitive function, become mentally stronger, and more productive, add Pilates to your fitness routine. Deeper muscle activation and articulation of the spine results in better function of the nervous system. Pilates increases your attention, motivation, and your ability to achieve more. A healthy nervous system means better communication between your brain and other parts of  the body, as well as the release of stress fighting, mood-boosting hormones. Pilates allows you to focus your attention on your body and your breath. Pilates gives you all the benefits of meditation while being active and engaged in exercise. It's the mindful movements that focus the mind while exercising the body. When physical activity is done with steady breathing and mindfulness, the nervous system responds by maintaining movement while adding a sense of calm. It's a perfect form of exercise for the development of the spine and a healthy nervous system.
